Brisbane’s favourite pinot party will open tonight, joined by a cheese festival of epic proportions, with organisers promising far from a stuffy, serious experience.
Pinot Palooza X MOULD by Revel Co, headed by CEO and Chair of Wine Victoria Dan Sims will delight guests with 150 wines from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond, and 50 cheeses from across the country.
After an epic sellout crowd to both individual festivals earlier this year, event organisers decided to bring them back as one epic party, hosted in the Exhibition Building at the Brisbane Showgrounds for three sessions across Friday and Saturday.
Mr Sims said the event truly combined two of his favourite things, and would allow guests to taste their way through the offerings and stock up ahead of the silly season.
“There is 150 wines to taste and we give everyone a massive wine glass for tastings, a tote bag and a cooler bag to stock up on cheese before Christmas,” he said.
“We also have what I call cheese and wine side-hustles, like charcuterie- there’s salumi, honey, Noosa Black Garlic, its like a mini market to meet artisan producers.”
“There’ll be drinks as well, so Felons will be there with their converted fire truck, we’ll have DJ there, it's a bit of a party vibe, not like a nightclub, but a bit above ambient.”
Joining the festival this year, for the first time in five years is a full section of New Zealand producers, who have travelled across the ditch to share their best pinot noir.
“In terms of Pinot Palooza, it's the biggest showing of winemakers in Brisbane ever and the first time the New Zealanders have been back in any numbers since 2019, so we have eight or nine producers from New Zealand,” Sims said.
There will also be a series of free cheese and wine talks hosted by Wine Companion Magazine legend Shanteh Wale, described by event organisers as “quick fire deep dives into the greater world of pinot noir and cheese”
Sims said that despite the festival being a wine tasting event organised, it would be a relaxed fun affair.
“I am the Chair of Wine Victoria, so I can get very serious about wine, but that is not my default setting,” he said.
“When I set up Revel 12 years ago it was a rebellion against old white men telling people what they don’t know about wine, and about making it inclusive and accessible and inviting.”
The festival will run three sessions, Friday 5-9pm, Saturday 11-3pm and 4-8pm, and tickets are available through the event’s website.
