Her pop-up pasta dinners sell out within hours across the country, now former Brisbane girl Jenna Holmes is finally bringing her loud and colourful Italian feasts to her home city.
Known as both her business names “Plant Mama” and “Pasta Mama”, Holmes is an ex-PE teacher-turner-pasta and plant enthusiast, who began combining her two loves into special ticketed dinner parties, featuring multi-course menus served among a greenhouse of flora. The concept, which launched in Melbourne in 2019, took off, with part of its appeal the complete and total secrecy surrounding the menu.
“They (guests) don’t really know what they’re coming to,” Holmes said.
“The menu is really based on what is the best in season that week and we will make everything around that. The main focus is on high-quality produce with high quality cheeses.”
That could mean anything from burrata and fresh focaccia with whipped butter to ravioli, gnocchi or cannelloni in her famous red sauce.
For her first foray into Brisbane, Holmes will be taking over Eagle Street Pier Italian restaurant Coppa Spuntino in the CBD on May 14 and 15.
Working alongside Coppa co-owner Tom Sanceau, Holmes will put on a 10-dish feast, featuring four entrees, three pastas, two sides and a dessert.
The two lunch events will be open to about 70 guests each day, with Holmes decking out the city space in her colourful signature tablecloths, stunning array of fruit, veg and greenery, and toe-tapping mix of disco beats; while Coppa will provide the slick service and a variety of dishes.
Tickets to the $165pp event will go on sale Wednesday.
