Taking over the site of the once popular Plum Tucker space on the corner of Enoggera Tce and Musgrave Rd, the French-influenced eatery is the work Arvid Noack, behind Auchenflower’s much-loved Haig Rd Bistro, and new co-owner Marcus Kerschbaumer.

“We’ve been quite successful with Haig Rd Bistro so we thought let’s bring it to another level,” says Noack.

The venue will open for coffee in the morning, serving a special Viennese-style brew from Julius Meinl, and perhaps offer some French pastries or ham and cheese toasted sandwiches. While dinner will be the focus with Haig Rd chef Jean Yann Bouton creating a set two- or three-course menu, featuring the choice of around four entrees, five mains and up to five desserts (including cheese).

Lunch will also be available on weekends, with a small a la carte menu that may include oysters, salad niçoise, escargot and the sort of pizza-like tarte flambee.

Noack says there will be strong similarities in both food and fit-out to Haig Rd Bistro, with the upstairs space at La Coin (pronounced La Kwan) to operate as a private dining room for up to 40. While downstairs there’ll be outdoor seating for around 30 following COVID rules. The venue is intended as a casual place you can stop for a quick bite to eat before catching a movie at neighbouring Red Hill Cinemas, or linger for a long relaxed meal.

A boutique range of international wines focusing on European varieties will be in play, alongside cocktails and their house champagne Perrier-Jouët. BYO will be offered during the week with days still to be confirmed.

The venue is scheduled to open at the end of October.
