My Mistress in Clayfield to launch unique new bar

It’s one of Brisbane’s most beloved cafes, now My Mistress is set to shock diners with its new offering.

One of Brisbane’s most popular cafes is set to turn its love for coffee into expert espresso martinis, launching a new tapas and cocktail bar.

My Mistress in Clayfield, in Brisbane’s north, is expanding its leafy digs just off Sandgate Rd, adding a fully decked-out 3m shipping container to its front courtyard that will act as a grab-and-go coffee and snack station by day, before evolving into a ultra cool, bungalow-style bar of an evening.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while (and) I just think it’s such a perfect space to have a drink,” owner Rhiannon Redmond says, with the bar to run Thu-Sat from 5pm.

The team is currently finalising the drinks list, but thirsty punters can expect a variety of locally produced and organic wines, alongside signature cocktails with an Asian spin and cheeky names building on the cafe’s “mistress” theme. But the big focus will be on espresso martinis using the cafe’s beloved Allpress beans, with a variety of flavours, including a salted caramel version and a spiced rum incarnation.

And to soak up all the fun, a Japanese-fusion-style share menu will be rolled out, keeping patrons full with the likes of slow-cooked lamb ribs, wasabi-spiked guacamole with lotus root chips, pulled pork and kim chi croquettes and charcuterie boards with Japanese elements.

Those charcuterie boards will also be available by day, with the shipping container to sell picnic kits in addition to coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, juices, wraps, toasties and more.

To coincide with the expansion, My Mistress will update its popular breakfast menu, as well as introduce a new daytime alcohol line-up so guests can enjoy a boozy brunch or glass of wine or beer at lunch. The cafe will also roll out a special car delivery service, allowing customers to order online at home and have their purchase brought straight to their car out the front of the cafe. The liquor licence is set to kick in in a fortnight, with the shipping container to be up and running, hopefully, in early to mid-November.
