THE LOVEWELL PROJECT
If its views you’re after, it’s hard to beat this cheery cafe atop Mt Gravatt lookout with a spectacular vista across Brisbane. Run in partnership with the Hope Foundation, this social enterprise ensures each cup of Renegade Roasters coffee you buy or meal you eat helps disadvantaged women trying to turn their lives around. While the breakfast and lunch fare may be simple - eggs benny, breakfast burgers, waffles and housemade sausage rolls, etc - it’s extra tasty knowing you are supporting the community.

8 STREET
Rather than a single restaurant, this is a food court-style collection of eateries all devoted to fun and vibrant Asian fare inside Westfield Garden City. In the buzzy, dark and moody precinct you’ll find everything from Korean bibimbop to Japanese ramen and Chinese Chongqing noodle dishes all at bargain prices for when you need to be fed in a hurry or need a break from shopping.

LOVING HUT
Specialising in vegan and vegetarian cuisine, the Mt Gravatt outlet of this hugely popular international chain has won over both herbivores and carnivores alike. The menu takes on both Asian and Italian influences with everything from chow mein, “heavenly salad” and Thai red curry to mushroom carbonara and lasagne.

DEVON CAFE
Tucked in the outdoor dining precinct at Westfield Garden City, this bright and airy licenced cafe pushes the boundaries on traditional breakfast cuisine with its creative menu. Think miso-marinated king salmon with an eel croquette and 63-degree egg, mango brioche French toast with pine lime cream, or baked eggs with yellow lentil dal. While into the evening more traditional fare is on show, such as spiced calamari, crab and prawn pasta, and wagyu with mushrooms.

DAMI JAPANESE RESTAURANT
This no-frills, tiny Japanese eatery is all about flavour over fit-out, serving up a roll call of Australian Japanese favourites. Expect sushi like California, spider and dragon rolls, alongside okonomiyaki, various teriyaki dishes, and a solid range of donburi.
