ASIAN fusion food meets Story Bridge views in a casual setting that works as well for a romantic dinner as it does for drinks and a few nibbles with friends. From a broad, eclectic menu, four tender pan-fried scallop dumplings sit warm on the shell, while another generous entree is smoked ocean trout salad, fragrant with fennel and just the right amount of spice from green chilli mayonnaise.
Plates are designed to be shared, in typical Asian style, with beef cheeks braised in rock sugar and soy, black bean and chilli sauce easily enough for two. Other mains include steamed barramundi with crispy chilli oil, cauliflower puree; miso-braised lamb shank with yellow radish pickle and yuzu buttermilk; and Hong Kong Portuguese chicken, pear salad.
Cocktails adopt an Oriental twist, such as a mildly spiced Sichuan margarita, and peach schnapps with Japanese sake. Traditionally, Asian desserts are simple and clean. Not so here, with custard tart, macadamia and wattle seed cream, and a flourless chocolate cake with cassia ice cream among the westernised choices. With good service, Madame Wu offers a value-for-money experience but be sure to book an outside table on the covered deck to snag those million-dollar views.
