A new dessert emporium promising old school classics and fun twists on traditional sweets has opened in Brisbane’s east.
Sweet Tooth Desserts in Hawthorne is the work of husband and wife Nick and Sabrina Mavris, who are behind hugely popular East Brisbane fish and chippery Barra Boys.
The pair started their dessert operation as a virtual business, selling sugary treats through Uber Eats after noticing a gap in the market online.
The business has since attracted a loyal delivery fanbase, with the couple deciding to launch their first store last week.
“I think we offer something different to a lot of the other chain dessert restaurants, we make most of our desserts from scratch,” said Mr Mavris.
The store sells everything from waffles, brownies and gelati to cheesecakes, churros, crème brulees and their now famous Nutella chocolate chip cookie pies, which has become a bestseller.
Meanwhile, a cake throw away, the couple has also taken over fish and chippery Hawthorne Seafood Markets, transforming it into Fish Boy Hawthorne.
The takeaway will also operate as a dine-in restaurant, serving simple food using high quality ingredients.
“This area is a community and people want to come together at a local store and be known … that’s what we do,” said Mr Mavris.
