Its spirits have been named some of the best in the world, now Gold Coast booze producer Granddad Jack’s is set to open a new distillery in Brisbane.

Moving into an old factory site on Collingwood St, Albion, just a footy pass from Brothers Rugby Club, the impressive 300sq m space will boast a 300L copper still that can produce up to 15,000 bottles of alcohol each year.

Owned by David Ridden and his son and head distiller, Luke, the operation is in honour of David’s grandfather, who was a keen fan of watching the horse racing at nearby Albion Park and even owned a horse he used to race there.

While the venue is being built as a sister operation to their hugely popular Gold Coast distillery in Miami, the Albion site will have its own completely unique offering.

“We’ve developed a new gin called Albion Gin only available at Collingwood St and we’ll have a new release every month of the year, which will be completely different special releases to the Gold Coast,” David said.

Those releases could include anything from a spiced rum to a sticky date pudding moonshine, with only 100 to 150 bottles of each made.

“Luke is so passionate he spends almost every day of his life developing recipes,” David said.

The distillery’s other products, including their internationally award winning gins and liqueurs, will be able to be ordered straight up or in cocktails, with up to 15 bespoke combinations created for the new premises.

Customers will even have the option to join their special Club 54, where for $120 you can buy a bottle of your choice which is given its own shelf in the distillery and you can come in and have any cocktail made using that drink for free for a year.

Making the spirits even more unique is the fact that the distillery will have its own greenhouse on site growing many of the botanicals for the gin and the garnishing flowers for the cocktails. And the impressive fit-out doesn’t stop there with the brick shed totally transformed using almost entirely recycled materials, including hard wood windows from the former dance school across the road and VJs sourced from salvage outlets.

The result will be a family and dog-friendly venue featuring live acoustic music on weekends and where guests can do a tour and learn how different alcohol is made.

Food will also be BYO, so you can bring your own cheese platter and charcuterie board or grab takeaway from across the road.

Granddad Jack’s Distillery Albion will open July 9.
