The Sunshine Coast is set to welcome a sexy new European-influenced restaurant, from one of Queensland’s top hospitality teams.
Market Bistro will move into the state-of-the-art Foundation Place site in the new Maroochydore CBD and is the work of Mooloolaba’s Rice Boi and Spero owner Tony Kelly, and former Campos Coffee operations manager Luke Stringer.
The glam new restaurant is inspired by the beautiful bistros of New York and will have a classic, European-influenced, seafood and steak-heavy menu from acclaimed chef Harry Lilai (ex-Greca, Brisbane and Town Hall Hotel, Fitzroy).
Expect the likes of vitello tonnato or duck parfait for entree, pasta courses of, maybe, bug risotto or gnocchi with aged balsamic, mains including baked snapper with brown butter, or crispy pork belly with fondant potatoes, plus a handful of aged steaks and seafood cooked on the wood fire grill.
A bargain prix fixe menu will be in play on weekdays offering two courses and a glass of wine for under $35 to attract the lunch crowd; while the venue will also have a charming bar area serving the likes of crab arancini, pappardelle beef ragu and charcuterie, with all dishes under $19.

“It’s the type of place where you’ll be able to grab a burger and chips for $15 in the bar or you can have a steak Florentine with your partner in the restaurant,” said Mr Kelly.
The restaurant will have an up-market but approachable retro feel with huge curved booths, lots of timber, beautiful wainscoting detail and forest green banquettes, while the bar will be a more casual space for drinks and a laid-back bite to eat.
The venue will also house its own bottle shop, Market Wine Stores, run by Queensland wine guru Peter Marchant (ex-Spicers Retreats), where diners can talk to the sommelier and choose their own bottle to then take next door to the restaurant. The wine will be at retail prices with customers just paying for corkage if they choose to drink in-house.
Or restaurant patrons can simply order off the largely Australian wine list, with a few European heroes and champagne thrown in. A strong cocktail list will also be available at the bistro, alongside craft and mainstream beers.
Market Bistro and Market Wine Stores is set to open on December 3.
