It’s Sunday morning, you’d had a sleep in and your coffee hit but now you’re hungry and craving something nourishing... we’ve got you covered.

From inner city Brisbane cafes, to the beach vibes of the Gold and Sunshine coasts, here are the most mouth watering places to find an acai bowl.

We’ve found the classic fruity blends to Lamington bowls and even a “mermaid’s tail” variety.

Here’s the top five we found across Brisbane and South East Queensland.

Insane Acai Ba

The OG acai bowl hotspot in Brisbane sits tucked away in the hipster, inner-south suburb of West End. No, we aren’t talking about Oakberry, which admittedly sits next door and also does a great bowl, we are talking about Insane Acai Bar. This little gem has been a firm favourite for acai lovers since long before acai bowls became the trendy food on the street. Peanut Butter Jelly and Lamington bowls sit comfortably alongside superfood and green bowls at Insane Acai bar, and while the venue mightn’t necessarily tick the same uber-aesthetic boxes that some of its contemporaries on this list do, the quality of the bowls here more than makes up for it.

Mylk + Ko has the perfect blend of health-focused bowls and happiness-focused bowls. Our vegan and gluten-free friends can take a sigh of relief though, because even the richest options here are strictly free from animal products and can be made GF on request. From the Bali Bliss bowl, a fresh mix of mango, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon and acai topped with oat granola, strawberry, kiwi, passionfruit puree and toasted coconut, to the Ferrero bowl with a smooth blend of coconut mylk, Nutella, banana, strawberries and acai, topped with chocolate granola, strawberries, coconut yoghurt, cacao sauce and cacao nibs, the variety here is huge.

On the other end of the spectrum sits Bare Naked Bowls in the trendy inner-city suburb of Newstead, a self-professed superfood cafe, where the options are as healthy as they are beautiful. The menu offers up 13 different bowl options, with all bar four featuring acai as their hero fruit. Narrowing it down to pick a favourite is a mammoth task, but for a delicious option that will give you all the benefits, the Manly Bowl can’t be missed. It features a blend of organic acai, banana, strawberry and organic apple juice, artfully topped with handmade nut granola, banana, strawberry, goji berry, blueberry, raw bee pollen and bush honey.

Topping this list as winners of the most Pinterest-worthy bowls in the Sunshine State, is vegetarian cafe Cardamom Pod Brickworks. The acai bowl options here may be limited but they make up for it in style. The two flavour options are the standard acai bowl and the snickers acai bowl. The acai bowl has a smooth blend of acai, banana, blueberries and strawberry and coconut water, topped with a sweet mango mousse, granola, fresh fruit, blue spirulina crème and their signature “mermaid tail”. The Snickers bowl features that same blend, with added cocoa and peanut butter, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, granola, fresh fruits and a raw snickers bar.

If eating an acai bowl for strictly “health” reasons is your thing, perhaps Decisions Cafe is not the place to go. If, however, you are after mouth-wateringly good combos Decisions is so named for the choices it allows customers between “superfood” and “superjunk”. Let’s look at the newest menu item, the Superjunk Acai Bowl. While the base does feature that familiar, deep-purple superfruit, and strawberry slices and cacao nibs, it’s topped with a stunningly sweet combination of Nutella, Biscoff spread, Biscoff biscuits, waffle cone, waffle stick, coconut ice cream, with a dash of marshmallows, sprinkles and freckles. This bowl is a must-try for dessert lovers.
