Drive-through honeypuffs a highlight of 2021 Paniyiri Greek Festival

Brisbane’s beloved Paniyiri might not be back to its usual form this year because of COVID, but the honeypuffs will be the same … and you won’t even have to leave the car to enjoy them.

Drive-through honeypuffs and digital demonstrations are all apart of the new Paniyiri Greek Festival format that promises to be just as lively as previous years.

Due to COVID restrictions, the 45th annual festival has moved from its longstanding Musgrave Park location to the Greek Club precinct and online.

“We stage this incredible event by the grace of our community and our sponsors, and have had to adopt to a format that protects us against any future lockdowns, yet still allows us to share our incredible culture, flavours, music, dance and history with greater Brisbane,” organising committee chair Chris Kazonis said.

Crowd favourites such as the Hellenic Dancers and fashion parades will still be running at the festival with most of events being livestreamed for those at home.

But it’s the world-famous honey puffs that have Karlia Xanthopoulos, 9, and Timmy Xanthopoulos, 9, so excited to head down on the weekend of May 22 and May 23.

Entry to the Greek Club will be free alongside some ticketed experiences. Tickets for those events are on sale now.
