The sudden closure of a popular southside burger bar is attracting attention from investors and former customers alike.

The sudden closure of Brodies Chicken & Burgers in Eagleby has left locals speculating about what will replace the popular eatery on Riverhills Rd.

Surprised customers were greeted with a sign on the door last week saying, “Sorry, we are closed till further notice.”

This franchise, part of the well-known Brodies Chicken and Burgers chain, was trading at the site for about 15 months and had recently undergone a modern fit-out worth $500,000.

Priced at $110,000 plus stock at valuation, the business is in a prime location, benefiting from high traffic flow to the business’s drive-through from the Pacific Motorway into and out of Eagleby.

Brodies Eagleby is next to a busy 7 Eleven petrol station and is surrounded by a mix of housing, a childcare centre, a football club, a public swimming pool, and a state school.

The sale is being managed by ABS Business Sales, with broker Hugo Martin revealing the lease terms for the outlet include an annual rent of $90,000 plus GST.

Speculation online about the contributing factors to the closure included recent changes to the menu, low customer turnout, high prices and inconsistent quality with suggestions for a Subway with a drive-through to a carvery, a Hungry Jack’s, or even a Kmart.

“Hopefully, they’ll bring in a decent carvery for a change,” wrote Ally Meehan, while Annette Smith proposed an ice cream or gelato shop.

“They should have stuck to chicken and chips and adding hot dogs and all the other stuff made everything lower quality and longer to prepare,” said customer Adam Bradley.

Eagleby resident Adam Lacey lamented the loss of another local business. “Unfortunately, it’s Eagleby — nothing lasts here unless it’s dirt cheap.”

Brodies Chicken and Burgers is an Australian brand that started in Queensland in 1987 and the Eagleby outlet is part of the national success story.

Interested parties are encouraged to complete a confidentiality agreement to receive more detailed information about the business.
