CHOCOLATE that's good for you - that’s the promise from a new chocolate factory opening today in Brisbane’s west.
17 Rocks in Seventeen Mile Rocks is the handiwork of husband and wife team Mark and Annette Muller and specialises in healthier chocolates using superfoods like ginkgo, turmeric and matcha, as well as sugar-free and vegan varieties.
“I’ve really enjoyed doing all the creation of the different products,” said Mrs Muller.
“I have children so I’ve just been thinking about what kinds of products would I like our children to be eating.”
Making their chocolates unique is that they import the beans direct from Papua New Guinea before roasting them at low temperatures to bring out the natural flavours of the cacao without changing the fat levels.
It results in a more full-flavoured chocolate without the need to fill them with numerous additives.
They have also created what they’ve dubbed “cave man” chocolates, or the 500BC range, which have a gritty texture from the beans in flavours such as hazelnut and chilli, and peanut, banana and cinnamon.
The factory will open to the public this afternoon, with a special event, and plan on running classes in chocolate making, so children and adults can understand what goes into the sweet treat.
