Boom Boom Room Izakaya will launch on October 2, filling the spot previously occupied by The Boom Boom Room, underneath acclaimed Chinese restaurant Donna Chang.
The new concept from The Ghanem Group will feature a Japanese snack menu designed by exec chef Jake Nicolson with dishes running from a barramundi katsu bao burger to miso-glazed toothfish with bonito mayo. While beverage director Aaron Clark has created a cocktail menu incorporating Asian flavours such as pickled ginger, lychee and green tea.
“We have seen great success leveraging The Boom Boom Room as an extension of Donna
Chang and really saw the potential to bring a relaxed, dark and moody basement restaurant
and bar, with a real intimate feel,” says Nehme Ghanem, from The Ghanem Group, also behind venues including Blackbird Bar & Grill, Byblos and Lord of the Wings.
“We have been developing the Izakaya concept for a while now, however, the decision to
transform and reimagine The Boom Boom Room was definitely made in light of the current
landscape.”
The basement venue in the former Queensland Government Savings Bank building will feature seating for 140 with the current COVID restrictions, and much of the same fit-out as before, with a few small tweaks. There will also be private dining hidden within the old bank vaults.
