After an impressive 17 years, one of Brisbane’s most loved suburban restaurants is closing its doors for good this Saturday.
85 Miskin St at Toowong will serve its last meal this weekend, with owners Brent Farrell and Kylie Hawkins deciding to take a break from the hospitality industry.
“I think more for me, it’s knowing that it’s time,” Farrell said.
“I’m shutting the restaurant on my terms, the business has been going well and there’s no financial strain and I’m really excited about what’s happening next.”
Although Farrell said he was not exactly sure what was next, with the couple committed to taking the rest of the year off to simply “chill out”.
However, he is keen to get his excavator licence and maybe renovate and flip a house, while Hawkins wants to pursue a career in residential real estate.
Before they wrap this weekend, the restaurant is putting on a special menu of favourite dishes from the past 17 years to celebrate its final days, with everything from duck pate and seafood bisque making the cut.
Farrell said the response from the public had been overwhelming, with the eatery booked out for the past four weeks as loyal customers said their goodbyes, with just a few tables left for this Friday and Saturday lunch.
Farrell is deciding on a new tenant for the 70-seater space, with the chef to remain on as landlord.
Kitchen Confidential will bring you more details on the new venue in the coming weeks.
