McDonald’s premium Wagyu Beef Burger returns to Australian menu

A premium burger made with expensive ingredients and served on a special bun has returned to Macca’s two years after it disappeared.

TikTok reveals 'better' way to eat Big Mac

A popular burger that disappeared from McDonald’s menus two years ago has returned – but sadly, there’s a catch if you’re a fan.

Macca’s announced its premium Wagyu Beef Burger will be available in restaurants across the country from September 15.

Made up of a 100 per cent Australian-bred Wagyu beef patty, topped with crispy bacon, caramelised onion, cheese, whole-leaf lettuce and tomato and served on a soft “gourmet” bun with its signature sauce, the burger is in another league to regular menu items.

However the “deluxe” burger, which has an $11.20 RRP, will only be on sale until October 19.

Amanda Milios, brand manager at McDonald’s Australia, said the fast-food giant was “thrilled” to be bringing back our much-loved Wagyu Beef Burger.

“We know this is a favourite for many of our customers who are looking for a delicious, more premium lunch or dinner option,” she said.

“As part of our continued support for the local agriculture industry, Macca’s is proud to have sourced over 170,000 kilograms of premium F1 Wagyu beef from more than 100 Aussie farms.

“We’ve been celebrating and serving great-tasting, homegrown ingredients to our customers from farms across the country for 50 years and know there’s huge demand for the taste of Wagyu beef.”

The fancy burger was last on sale in April 2019 after originally debuting in March the previous year as a “world first” for the food giant.

Despite the beef patty being made from 100 per cent Australian-bred Wagyu beef, it didn’t launch with rave reviews as some branded it “expensive” and “plain” in 2018.

In Australia, a Big Mac costs $6.25 on average making the Wagyu burger almost double the price.

But despite the criticism, many loved the burger, declaring it was “worth the hype”.
