Reality star defends sexy wedding guest dress amid backlash
A popular reality star has defended wearing a see-through lace gown to a friend’s nuptials, claiming “the bride loved” the controversial outfit.

A popular reality star has clapped back at critics who slammed her decision to wear a see-through lace dress to a wedding – a move some labelled “inappropriate”.
Paige DeSorbo, who stars in Bravo’s Summer House, defended the sheer black gown she wore to a friend’s French nuptials last month.
The 30-year-old fashion expert was widely criticised after sharing a series of snaps in the sexy ensemble, with arguing its risque appearance would “distract from the bride”.
However DeSorbo argues she could “defend it all day long”, stating the trendy dress was approved by the bride during an appearance on a recent episode of the LadyGang podcast.
“First and foremost, I was in Saint-Tropez, I wasn’t at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, so it was a very different type of wedding,” DeSorbo said.
DeSorbo said there were “acrobatic dancers inside of flower petals” and other elaborate features at the lavish black-tie event.
“It was not a typical wedding,” she said.
“And the couple that got married – my girlfriend Alexa and her now-husband Wilton – [are] easily one of the most stylish couples I have ever been around.
“They just look good. They look like a model couple.”
DeSorbo noted her friend is a stylist and “all about the glitz and glamour”, adding she expected the same from her guests.
“I was maybe one of 15 girls that was in sheer dresses – also because that’s like trendy,” she said.
The reality TV star said she would “have never worn” the see-through design to a more traditional wedding and got the stamp of approval from friends and even the bride before choosing it.
“So I sent it to all of my girlfriends who were also going to the wedding and we were sending all of our dresses in a group chat and not a single person batted an eye,” she said. “One of the other girls was in a completely sheer [dress] that had like green sparkles on it so I was like, ‘Oh we are so good.’”
DeSorbo clarified the bride “loved” her look and that everyone in the wedding party also dressed to impress.
“But I loved that dress. I stick by it and again it just proved to me that not a lot of people have been to a wedding in the South of France and for that I apologise to them,” she said.
Fans of the popular reality star and fashion influencer were riled up after she shared photos at the start of July from the ritzy weekend.
“The most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to,” she captioned the carousel, which gave followers a close look at the black dress.
The Salih Balta gown featured a boned corset top and a see-through, lace skirt with a thigh-high slit that sat off the shoulders.
“I’d consider it an insult if someone wore what Paige did. Terrible,” one remarked.
“Beautiful but not appropriate for a wedding. You both look hotter than the Bride & Groom. You look like you are wearing lingerie,” another weighed in.
As one declared: “Not appropriate at ALL!!”
However, not everyone agreed, with some calling the backlash “wild” and stating DeSorbo looked “unreal”.
“Breathtaking,” one commented, as someone else wrote: “You can do no wrong. Hush haters!”
Prior to heading to France with her boyfriend Craig Conover, DeSorbo had been on holiday in Italy with her parents, where she revealed her dad wasn’t a fan of some of her revealing outfits.
The fashion writer, who is loved by fans for “keeping it real”, shared a series of videos on TikTok in which she shared questioned whether or not to wear a chocolate brown dress – which featured two cut-outs across the upper thigh and hips – to dinner.
While her 525,000 followers loved the outfit, DeSorbo feared it looked “like a bathing suit and cover up”, and turned to her mum and dad for help – who promptly explained she might want to show less flesh.
“I mean you look really good, but I think you have it a little too low,” her dad said.
Her mum then chipped in, offering a solution: “I have tape if you want to tape it up.”
DeSorbo, who also co-hosts one of the highest rating US podcasts Giggly Squad with Hannah Berner, later updated followers on the “saga”.
“I tucked this in,” she said, revealing one cut-out was now covered by the skirt, which was sat asymmetrically across her hips.
“But if anyone sees me out and says, ‘nice bathing suit’, you’re dead.”
