More than 100,000 people will descend on Brisbane Showgrounds to celebrate Ekka’s first weekend.
RNA chief executive Brendan Christou said pre-pandemic crowds were expected across the nine days of the annual show, with about 400,000 people set to turn out.
“We’ve sold over 120,000 tickets already. So it’s shaping up to be a great show,” he said.
“Last year was our comeback Ekka and it was the first one after Covid. I think there was still a bit of nervousness in the community …
“This year it’s looking great. It’s fantastic. There’s none of that nervousness.”
Mr Christou said this year they were mindful of cost-of-living pressures, with two-for-one rides available every day from 9am to 10.30am in the B105 Sideshow Alley and Kids Carnival. Courier-Mail readers can use today’s paper for 15 per cent off Ekka tickets with a special code.
The Ebert family are already excited for the next nine days, especially since they won big at the chook judging on Friday.
Everyone in the family got at least one breed champion with the chooks and birds that they entered.
Gates opened at 9am, with sideshow alley running until late and The Courier-Mail Showbag Pavilion open until 9.30pm.
