Ditch the imports – here’s where to find a local answer to the viral Crumbl cookies

Biscuit lovers were left crying into their milk after an unofficial pop-up for a viral cookie brand left a bitter taste in fan’s mouths. Now, an SA influencer thinks they’ve found a local version.

Cult US cookie chain makes huge announcement

A viral cookie craze is popping up all over TikTok, and Adelaide is not immune from the sugar hit.

While Sydney TikTok influencers were left crying into their milk after #Crumblgate, a grassroots baker has been touted as Adelaide’s answer to the coveted cookies.

South Aussie food influencer @adelaide_eatsss shared a post of the decadent desserts with the caption, “Crumbl cookies in Adelaide?!’.

The post tagged Glenelg burger bar Burgertec, explaining they were an “off-menu item”.

Baker @that_cookieguy was quick to rush to the comments, writing “Hope you enjoyed them.”

According to their website, their New York style cookies are baked locally and sold at markets and Burgertec stores across Adelaide.

They have been in operation since 2020 with orders taken through their website.

For those who missed the doughy drama, #Crumblegate unfolded when Sydney TikTok influencers were left crying into their milk after queuing for more than an hour – and paying $17.50 – for a taste of the cult Crumbl Cookie, after falsely believing the US-based company had set up a pop-up in Bondi.

But instead, they were sinking their teeth into cookies that had been brought back in suitcases from the US by fans, with no official endorsement by the Crumbl company.

Since then, the American chain – which has more than 800 stores in the US – has reassured Aussies there are plans to bring the biscuits Down Under, and has shared a new official Instagram account @crumbl.au, where fans can stay up to date with store locations and opening dates.

For now, we’ll just stick to supporting local. #SAGreat
