A major water leak in Brisbane’s CBD inundated streets with gushing water on Friday afternoon.
Police urged motorists to avoid Charlotte St and George St, which were closed due to a burst water main at about 4.30pm with local diversions in place.
At 7:45pm Charlotte St had reopened but George St remained closed overnight due to emergency roadworks.
All lanes were blocked after Mary St in both direction according to the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
They advised motorists to use and alternate route or expect long delays.

A police spokesman said multiple buildings have been impacted by the water main exploding.
He said the car park underneath the Brisbane Casino has water running through it and The Oaks hotel has experienced flooding.
Due to the significant amount of water he said emergency services will use sandbags to mitigate flooding of surrounding streets and buildings.
By 6pm the flow of water had slowed, but rocks had been strewn across the street.
