8. Traditional India

6/11 Bowser Parade, Sandgate

If you’re looking for authentic Indian cuisine, opt for a place with ‘traditional’ in the name. Their menu has the whole shebang: tandoori, meat, seafood and vegetable curries and biryanis. It’s also BYO and fully licenced.

7. Taj Mahal Indian

722 Brunswick St, New Farm

It doesn’t get more Indian than proudly boasting on its website to have hosted the Indian Cricket Team five times. Taj Mahal’s extensive menu has a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, such as their beef madras. There are also two banquets (regular and deluxe) for those who want the decisions made for them.

3. Indian Mehfil

10 Felix St, Brisbane City, 116 Brisbane St, Ipswich City, 4 Morrow St, Taringa

The only Indian menu I’ve seen with tapas as an entree, but it must be doing something right to snag third spot. Three locations between Brisbane and the Lockyer Valley mean you’re never too far from a delicious lamb rogan josh or vegetarian channa masala.

2. Jaipur Palace

3/379 Main Rd, Wellington Point

Celebrating its 21st birthday in October, Jaipur Palace has been a labour of love for owners David and Sheena Singh. David says the most important thing about his restaurant is making sure that it’s “like you’re in India,” mentioning how the Wellington Point restaurant promotes a village feel. Their most popular dishes are chicken makhan (butter chicken), shahi chicken and chicken tikka masala.

1. Punjab Curry Club

2/391 Main Rd, Wellington Point

With double the votes of the competition, Punjab Curry Club was the stand out winner, possibly because of its mouth-watering lamb shank curry and seafood curry. Their menu is whopping, with royal red meat curries like madras, rogan josh and nawabi going great with yoghurt, fresh naan and steaming coconut rice.
