1. LITTLE BLACK PUG, MT GRAVATT
6/1297 Logan Rd
Instagram: @littleblackpugcafe
Owned by former scientists and full-time foodies Louise and Josh Daly, Little Black Pug has sold their gluten-free pancakes since they first opened on Logan Road in 2018.
When the couple developed the recipe, they wanted to make sure customers would eat the pancakes and not even know they were gluten-free.
“I believe we’ve nailed that since no one has ever mentioned anything,” the cafe’s co-owner Louise Daly says.
Little Black Pug’s created close to 10 different pancake flavours as their menu changes with the seasons every three months or so.
The sustainable cafe’s current flavour is fun and festive: Birthday Cake. It’s a stack of pancakes served with berries, caramelised chocolate crumb, vanilla custard, all topped off with 100s and 1000s.
“If it’s your birthday and you could choose to have any flavour, why not have them all,” Louise says.
“We want everyone who eats it to feel like they’re celebrating because food should be celebrated,” the pug-lover says.
At its heart, this Southside cafe is all about embracing diversity and being inclusive. So, whatever your age, whether you’re a human or a dog, and carnivore or vegetarian, Little Black Pug has something more-ish waiting for you.
