10. Earth n Sea
336 Ipswich Rd, Annerley
A sister restaurant to the popular Byron Bay institution, they serve up non-traditional pizzas, such as the double cheeseburger, cajun chicken and Mexican with beef and kidney beans.

9. Colle Rosso
191 Musgrave Rd, Red Hill
A less is more approach to traditional toppings, a choice of red or white bases, and pizzas with a crispy chewy crust are what to expect at this authentic Italian pizzeria. Choose from a simple margherita or try the Sarda, their most popular, featuring Sardinian pork sausage, ricotta and porcini mushrooms. The chefs take their ingredients seriously with their Buffalo Mozzarella and even organic tomatoes flown in from Italy each day.

8. Osteria Epoca
17 Orontes Rd, Yeronga
Owner Lorenzo Nobilio ferments his hand-stretched dough for a minimum of 48 hours and uses an electric oven with a stone base which he claims “gives a perfect Northern Italian-style crispy base”. His most popular pizza is the Diavola with salami, capsicum, black olives and chilli.

7. Beccofino
10 Vernon Terrace, Teneriffe
This Italian pizzeria is only slightly less busy than its sister restaurant Julius (see No. 2 below) across town but regardless expect to queue for its authentic wood-fired pizzas. Their chewy, crispy dough is fermented for 36-48 hours and cooked in a wood-fired oven.

6. Tocco Italiano
1 Florence St, Teneriffe
Charry, crisp and with that signature chew, the traditional Naples-style pizzas at this Italian eatery are some of the best around. Each pizza comes hot and fresh out of the wood-fired oven in classic flavours such as margherita and marinara on a red base or funghi and four cheese on a white base. Their most popular pizzas are the capriciossa with ham, olives and artichokes, as well as the classic margarita. Owner Arturo Buonocore said a pizza named the Ravello is one of their specialties which comes from his home village on the Amalfi Coast. It is cooked in the oven with cherry tomoates and mozzarella, then is topped with prosciutto, rocket and parmesan before it’s served.

5. Smokin Joes
3 Sizer St, Everton Park
Choose from classic pizzas using toppings such as sopressa salami, roasted tomato and olives, or dive into a deluxe pizza with the likes of pulled pork and chipotle slaw or the Smokin Joe with Moroccan lamb, pea shoot salad and mango chutney.

4. La Prima Pizzeria
3/1 Ian Keilar Dr, Springfield Central
Owned by Milanese couple Claudio and Madison D’Andrea, the duo cater for all pizza lovers with a “tradizionale” and “Australiane” menu. Their most popular pie is a pepperoni and salami but there’s also the likes of prosciutto, rocket and parmesan or a barbecue chicken with onion and olives.

3. Il Forno
3 Third Ave, Sandgate
Traditional wood-fired pizzas are given a twist with the likes of slow cooked venison, mozzarella, caramelised onions, cherry tomatoes or the L’Anatra with a hoisin base, mozzarella, shredded duck with fresh spring onion and cucumber. There’s also wood-fired pretzels with toppings and more traditional choices such as a margherita for the pizza purists.

2. Julius Pizzeria
77 Grey St, South Brisbane
Sister venues Julius and Beccofino (see No. 7) turn out authentic Italian pizzas to the masses with long queues often waiting for a slice of their signature wood-fired crusts. Pizzas are available with red or white bases, the classic margherita is always a winner, but you also can’t go past their Santo Stefano — with mozzarella, smoked prosciutto, tomato, onion and basil.

1. Arrivederci Pizza
Address: 1/1 Park Rd, Milton
Diners with big appetites flock to this busy Milton restaurant, which is renowned for its metre-long pizzas cooked up by Calabrian chef Cristian Pagnotta. The pizzeria is also popular for its vegan friendly menu and its huge selection of toppings for meatlovers including the favourite — the Arrivederci special with salami, tomato base, cheese, bacon, parmesan, basil pesto. Pagnotta ferments his dough for 48-52 hours and pizzas are finished off in an electric oven.
