The husband of a Sunshine Coast yoga queen who died in childbirth has revealed heartbreaking new details about the tragedy.
Lauren Verona, 43, died during the birth of her third daughter, Lucinda Lauren Elizabeth last month, who her father says is a “healthy, thriving baby girl.”
Ryan Gaylard, Lauren’s husband, has revealed that she “connected with our beautiful baby” before she died.
“They had skin to skin touch,” Mr Gaylard said.
“Lauren held Lucinda. They heard each other’s sounds and Lucinda, strong as ever, lifted her head to allow connection with their eyes.”
Mr Gaylard said that his family were “eternally grateful” for the support of the Sunshine Coast community following Lauren’s death.
“From over 100l of donated breast milk to the kind, loving words and memories of Lauren, and Lucinda’s future, it has been overwhelming.”
Mr Gaylard added that while “this is devastating, nothing will take that pain away … Lucinda means light, and she most certainly is a light in these dark times.”
He said that Lauren would likely have died regardless of whether she had opted for a hospital birth or a home birth.
While Ms Verona’s cause of death is still being investigated, she reportedly died after suffering a rare amniotic fluid embolism, caused by fluid or foetal matter entering the maternal bloodstream.
“It’s as rare as hens teeth … no matter where Lauren birthed Lucinda, horrifyingly, the result would have been the same,” Mr Gaylard said.
“The power of hypnobirthing is evident in our beautiful little Lucinda., (Lauren) knew Lucinda was OK and perfect.”
“I was with her when the doctors had exhausted all efforts and we had our last moments before saying farewell for now.
The statement comes after the final harrowing social media posts Lauren made before her death were revealed.
“The universe had a higher plan for our beloved Lauren.”
“This has been an extremely difficult time that no words could properly explain,” Mr Gaylard said.
Lauren’s daughter, Allira, said that “my mum’s memory will never fade.”
“My mum is forever in our hearts, emotionally and spiritually.”
She said that “little baby Lucinda makes me feel better each and every time I glance at her.”
“I will treat Lucinda as mum treated me, as mum would want me to.”
Just days before her tragic death – where she left behind husband Ryan and her two other daughters Allira and Evie – a 41-weeks-pregnant Lauren posted on her Facebook page about ‘divine timing’ and ‘trusting the higher plan.”
“These last few weeks and months if I’m to be honest have been very challenging with the countless pregnancy complications I’ve had,” she wrote on June 5.
“But I hear my own children say “divine timing” when anyone asks when the baby is coming out.
“I love that they get it.
“I love that our children reinforce our own belief systems when we quietly question it, I love that it rolls off the tongue and the statement just stands.
“So here we are 41 weeks pregnant trusting the higher plan.”
