Devastation has turned to joy for a Queensland couple who had saved money for IVF treatment, before being scammed out of their life savings.

Redland Bay couple Dani and Scott White are delighted to announce that they are 20 weeks pregnant, after they were scammed out of $98,000 they had saved up for IVF.

Ms White told The Courier-Mail it had been a lovely experience since falling pregnant on a free IVF cycle offered by the City Fertility Group.

“The actual journey has been quite surreal, because there was such low expectations from myself, just assuming that it would take quite a few years with IVF,” she said.

“We actually managed to fall pregnant on the first go, so we were really, really lucky and other than just a bit of sickness it’s been a really lovely experience.”

The couple had saved money over several years, so they could realise their dream of having a baby through IVF, before Mr White said he fell for a calculated and callous bank scam.

“It was just super believable, it just seemed like I was talking to someone from the bank,” Mr White told The Courier-Mail.

“It tells you the level of the scammers are at where they can have the information in front of them and sound like the bank without the consumer knowing.”

After hearing the couple’s devastating plight through an interview on Network 10 show The Project, the City Fertility Group reached out to them and offered them an IVF cycle free of charge.

Medical Director and Fertility Specialist at City Fertility Newstead Dr Simone Campbell said she was happy to assist the couple with their IVF journey, who fell pregnant on the first cycle with them.

“They are just such a lovely couple who have had their fair share of stress and upheaval in their lives immediately preceding our initial consultation,” Dr Campbell said.

“After developing their personalised fertility plan and getting a few dates lined up, the team was very hopeful we could get them pregnant.

“Giving them the good news is the best part of my job.”

Baby White is due in late June.
