With just two weeks until the sole survivor is crowned, the tenth season of Australian Survivor (Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villians) has been described as an “absolute rollercoaster”, according to Brisbane contestant, Simon Mee. With a guaranteed spot on the jury and currently in the final six, Mee said the season has been greater than anything he could have ever imagined.
“The highs have been higher, the lows have been so low … but there is one clear highlight for me, and that was having the chance to win the car, he said.
As part of the reward challenge on day 36, players were tasked with assembling a tower of puzzle blocks. The first player to complete the challenge was given a picnic lunch as well as a new Isuzu car.
“Actually winning a brand-new car was just mind blowing,” he said.
“As someone who is a an apprentice, carpenter who is on minimum wage, it’s life changing to win that for me.”
Describing himself as the cane toad of Queensland, Mee said other players have found it difficult to get rid of him.
“I think that George is the cockroach from Bankstown, and that’s because he was really hard to get rid of in Brains V Brawns,” he said.
“I think I’m really coming across as the cane toad from Queensland, because they, too, are very hard to kill.”
When asked if he took any mementos from his time on the island, Mee said he is a bit of a “collector maniac”.
“I have the bag of coffee beans, which … is pretty cool,” he said.
“After the Chinese banquet I had obviously been through a crazy, crazy saga this season with my cookie idol.
“There was a bunch of fortune cookies as part of the banquet. I was like, there’s gotta be a clue in one of these.
“It’s just way, too good. It said ‘if you look in the right key places, you can find some good offerings’.”
Mee said the spacing of the “t” in the middle of the sentence implied there was a hidden immunity idol in a place directly tied to the letter “t”.
“I was looking into T-junctions, trees, anything that started with the letter t,” he said.
“Sure enough, this just happened to be a very unfortunate fortune.”
Mee spent a total of four days looking for an idol that unfortunately did not exist.
Despite an incredible time on the show, Mee said he is not in a rush to return to island life.
“I’m looking forward to life and maybe just slowing down a little bit,” he said.
“If the time was ever right again, yeah, but I need to just rest and recuperate.
“If I want to remain married, I need to make sure that I am very careful about going back again.
“While it’s such an amazing experience it is also really selfish thing, that you kind of do there, and I’m just so grateful to have a supportive partner to go through that with.”
