Queensland will get a taste of Hollywood with two new shows to be produced in the Sunshine State this year.
Comedy-drama, Good Cop/Bad Cop, secured by Screen Queensland through the state government’s Production Attraction Strategy, will be filmed in the Scenic Rim in late March.
Southeast Queensland will double for the US state of Washington during the eight-part series.
The show, written by Will & Grace writer John Quaintance, will feature a star-studded cast with Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester, Dexter: New Blood’s Clancy Brown and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Luke Cook.
Meanwhile, the second season of Black Snow is also set to begin production on the Gold Coast.
Produced by Goalpost Pictures, the next season will see Travis Fimmel, who recently took on the screen adaptation of Boy Swallows Universe, reprise his role as Detective Cormack, as he tackles two separate missing persons cases.
Good Cop/Bad Cop’s production is estimated to inject $14.4 million into the economy, while also supporting local businesses and creating over 200 jobs.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said the team was delighted the series would be made here in the sunshine state.
“Queensland’s reputation as a destination of choice for local, national and international production is ever expanding and our homegrown talent is second to none,” Ms Feeney said.
“The international production features many Queensland practitioners in key creative roles across directing, writing, cinematography, production design, editing and more, and will create vital career pathways for the emerging crew through our Attachment program.”
Jungle Entertainment executive producer Chloe Rickard said Queensland’s Scenic Rim was the “perfect idyllic small-town look for the story”.
“(It is) somewhere we hope to return to for many seasons. These lush natural environments have drawn us to the state,” Ms Rickard said.
“Further, Screen Queensland’s global focus and exceptional Production Attraction team have worked hard to secure our production and we are thrilled with the level of government support.”
Jungle Entertainment has been responsible for a range of series including A Moody Christmas, Bad Mothers, and Mr Inbetween.
The Stan Original Series follows sibling detective team, Lou (Meester) and Henry (Cook) in a small police force headed by the police chief who happens to be their dad (Brown), as they navigate through colourful residents and a serious lack of resources.
