Vince Colosimo fired from Celebrity Apprentice as star faces jail

Aussie actor Vince Colosimo was sacked from Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday, after it emerged he could wind up in jail over a string of charges.

Australian actor Vince Colosimo has been booted from Celebrity Apprentice after it emerged the TV star faces jail time on drug-driving charges.

The 55-year-old from Melbourne, who is known for playing Alphonse Gangitano in Underbelly, has been accused of driving under the influence of drugs while on a disqualified license during an incident in St Kilda on April 3 last year.

It comes as the father-of-two was eliminated from Sunday night’s episode of the Channel 9 reality show, with Lord Alan Sugar firing him after he failed to effectively lead his team on an infomercial challenge.

Nine Network was reportedly unaware of his charges when they approached him to star on the current season, which filmed late last year.

Colosimo is currently holidaying in Cannes, France, with his case heard in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Prosecutor Bianca Moleta said, “A term of imprisonment is on the cards.”

Colosimo’s lawyer George Vassis asked the court if the hearing could be conducted in his client’s absence but Ms Moleta argued the accused needed to be present for the case to proceed due to the prospect of prison.

Mr Vassis said he was “surprised” the prosecution believed the actor was in line for jail time.

Colosimo is yet to comment.

Meanwhile, Colosimo told Nine Entertainment he was “really disappointed” to have been eliminated from the show, failing to win the prize money for his chosen charity, Dementia Australia.

But he said he learned a valuable lesson during his short stint on the series.

“I’ve learnt that being yourself, being honest, being true is the best asset to have,” he said.
