It’s rare for the second season of a series to be better than its first, but Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed Aussie drama The Twelve is arguably better than its predecessor.

It’s no surprises then that on Monday BINGE announced the anthology crime series will return for Season 3.

Sam Neill will be back as legal eagle Brett Colby SC, who is the only character on the drama to reprise his role in all three seasons.

In Season 1, Colby defended a Sydney woman who was accused of killing her sister’s child, and in Season 2 he was brought to the fictional town of Tunkwell in Western Australia after a local landowner was found dead with her daughter and her ex-lover on trial for the murder.

Stream The Twelve Season 1 and 2 now on BINGE, available on Hubbl.

Season 2 was the biggest-ever production to take place in WA, which brought in an estimated $9.6 million to the local economy and created more than 650 jobs.

Season 3, which will film in the Margaret River region and Perth surrounds, is projected to bring in $10 million.

“The Twelve has been a favourite of FOXTEL and BINGE audiences and following that success we’re thrilled to commission a third season of this premium award-winning drama,”

said Alison Hurbert-Burns, Commissioner & Executive Director, Entertainment Content,

Foxtel Group.

Season 1 of the series was the most nominated drama at the TV Week Logie Awards last year, winning three coveted categories, including Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries Or Telemovie, Most Outstanding Supporting Actress for Brooke Satchwell and Most Popular Actor for Neill.

“I think there has been a mistake,” Neill said in his acceptance speech. “I haven’t actually thought of anything to say, but I thought my name was just there to make up the numbers.”

“Look, there are so many actors in this show that I am not even sure that I was the main actor or anything like that,” he continued. “I don’t know why they have given this to me. Maybe it was the wig? Yeah, it was the wig.”

The Twelve Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on BINGE, available on Hubbl, and watch On Demand on FOXTEL.
