Logie Awards 2024: Larry Emdur wins Gold Logie as Boy Swallows Universe dominate Logies after Sam Pang's Seven roasting

Larry Emdur has taken out the Gold Logie, and the awards were dominated by big wins for Boy Swallow Universe after comedian and radio personality Sam Pang roasted the Seven Network. Follow updates.

Australia has crowned its new favourite TV star.

Larry Emdur has got the Gold Logie. It was his second win on the night after he won a Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter.

"Shit I just remembered I did say if I won this during the week, did I?" he laughed.

"I was so convinced that I wasn't going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow morning."

The people’s choice for Logies host Sam Pang went straight for the elephant in the room with his opening monologue, skewering the Seven network, his employer and broadcaster of the awards.

“Firstly, Channel 7, well, I’m just letting you all know I’m going to say whatever I want tonight,” he said.

“I stand before you safe in the knowledge that whatever I say, this network will defend me in court. And with their impeccable record in defamation cases over the last 12 months I reckon I’ll be fine.

“Full disclosure; I’m not getting paid by Channel Seven tonight. Instead, for the next 12 months, they’re paying my rent.Which is handy as they’ll know what address to send the Thai masseuse to.”

One of the biggest surprises of the Logies was Pang’s introduction of a world exclusive message from controversial breakdancing Olympian, Rachael “Raygun” Gunn.

One of the night’s more joyous moments came when Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy fronted the Farnham Band to pay tribute to national music treasure John Farnham, performing Burn for You and a rousing rendition of his signature hit You’re The Voice.

The tribute was watched by Farnham’s family, including sons Robert and James, and an emotional Gaynor Wheatley, whose late husband Glenn, was behind the making of the documentary.

Much-loved television actor Rebecca Gibney was named this year’s inductee to the Logie Hall of Fame. Bluey was a popular winner for Best Children’s Program.

During the show, Pang said he'd had more feedback when he joked about Seven again, and mentioned Julian Assange and Mark Taylor who worked for Nine as an Olympics commentator.

"This one here from Channel 7, 'Hey, Sam, strike two. Also, we're now only paying for three months of your rent'. This one here from someone named Julian, 'After watching that opening monologue, I'd like to go back to the Ecuadorian embassy.' This is a bit strong. This is embarrassing. It's tough to watch someone who is so clearly unqualified to do this job. That's from Channel 9 diving commentator Mark Taylor."

Boy Swallow Universe has also dominated with multiple wins.

The Gold Logie is a tough field this year with nominees including Andy Lee, Asher Keddie, Julia Morris, Larry Emdur, Robert Irwin, Sonia Kruger and Tony Armstrong.

Updates

Gold Logie winner is ...

Four-time Gold Logie winner Lisa McCune presented the biggest award of the night to Larry Emdur, who had previously promised to have his fellow nominees names tattooed on his bottom if he won.

Earlier in the night, Emdur won the Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter.

"Shit I just remembered I did say if I won this during the week, did I?" he laughed.

"I was so convinced that I wasn't going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow morning."

Addressing wife Sylvie, he continued: "I know we had some fancy hotel planned but looks like I'll be doing squats all night getting ready."

Emdur, 59, has co-hosted Seven's The Morning Show on Seven for 17 years alongside Kylie Gillies.

He is also host of gameshow The Chase and has been a fixture on Australian television since 1989 when he was at the helm of Family Double Dare.

His other credits include The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, It Takes Two and Celebrity Dog School.

"I love being in TV … I've never done anything else and I've never wanted to do anything else," he said.

"Whether it's sitting on The Morning Show couch interviewing Lindy Klim who has invented a new product which is a face mask for vulvas or a 150kg truck driver who has won on The Price Is Right, dry humping me, being the most axed man in television, and there have been some terrible things, plenty of times I've had to think, do I look right, am I right for this?"

Emdur meanwhile had his fellow nominees names embroidered inside his suit jacket pocket.

And he thanked his kids, Jye and Tia, and work wife, Gillies, as well as Seven executives Sarah Stinson and Chloe Flynn.

"Apparently they love the fact that it's rhyme now, slang," Emdur said of his kids.

"If you're going on a bender, you're going on a 'Larry Emdur'. They're proud of me for that." .

Boy Swallows Universe star Felix Cameron's backstage interview

He is 15, but he's picked up two Logies tonight.

This is how he replied when asked the following questions.

Do you go to school tomorrow?

"Luckily not… I don't know do I? I don't head back until Tuesday."

When asked if he'd made a bet for the inght, he said: "I haven't made any bets with anyone, mostly because it's illegal at my age.

"But I don't know how I will be celebrating, I will just party with my brother and sister.
"Straight back to normal and back to school and my mates taking the piss out of me for my speech, so that will be fun."

Will you take them (the Logies) for Show and Tell?
"Probably not. I feel like someone might nick them and they will sell them on ebay. I don't like to make it too big a deal, I like to just roll around and have fun with my mates. I won't be showing these to anyone. It will be kept in the pool room, straight to the pool room."

At the end of an interminably long and unfunny intro at the tail end of a very, very long awards show, presenters Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor, messed up the one job they had to do; announce their category.

They were tasked with revealing the Best Drama Program and instead started to say they were getting to the nominees for "actor in a drama."

"Someone at Seven has f***ed me!" Pacquola said when she realised the mistake, with her F-bomb going live to air.
