Farmer Wants A Wife: Meet the contestants on the 2020 reboot

One of the most successful dating shows is returning to our TV screens. Meet the farmers desperately wanting to meet the girl of their dreams.

Dating show success: we do the maths

The Farmer Wants A Wife reality TV show is returning to Aussie screens on Channel 7 this year.

It’s a classic love story scenario — a bright-eyed girl from the big city meets a lonesome farmer, they fall in love and spend happily ever after together while rolling around in the hay. It’s quality viewing and it doesn’t get more quintessentially Aussie than this.

Watching girls from the CBD sleep in bunk beds, roll around in mud and shear sheep is in a league of its own and it’s no surprise the country is thrilled for the show's return in our hour of need.

It was also one of the most successful reality TV shows when it comes to romance — there have been nine marriages and many children from the nine seasons between 2007 and 2016.

This year, six humble Aussie farmers are saddling up and preparing for the ride of their life as they embark on a quest for love. So who are these men? Find out below.

FARMER JACK, 27, A SHEEP FARMER FROM HARROW, VICTORIA

Farmer Jack is a passionate dog lover, say no more.

“It is certainly very difficult to meet women in this part of the world. If she doesn’t like dogs, we might have our first little hiccup, I’d say, because of the amount we’ve got running around here. For me to find love, it’s really important. Family is everything – it’s absolutely vital. I think I could make someone happy out here – absolutely.”

HARRY, 28, A GRAPE, COTTON AND SHEEP FARMER FROM GOOLGOWI, NSW

Harry sounds like a firecracker and I think he’ll be guaranteed to provide the lols this season.

“It’s not easy – especially out here. If you do get emotionally attached and then you get your heart broken then you’re, sort of, stuck. I’d be a very supportive husband. I would be a red hot dad, I reckon! I think I am a pretty good bloke – I don’t know why I’m single!”

Harry is still scratching his head about why he’s single.

FARMER SAM, 27, A TROPICAL FRUIT FARMER FROM INNISFAIL, QUEENSLAND

Farmer Sam wants a girl who he can spoil and feed. Sounds like a tough job but someone has to do it.

“It’s really important to me to find true love, because I really want to settle down one day and have a family of my own. I have a lot of love to give. I love spoiling someone. My ideal girl would have to be loving, caring, and just a beautiful heart. A good heart, and loves food – she has got to love food! If she doesn’t love food, it might be a deal-breaker!”

FARMER ALEX, 28, A SHEEP AND CATTLE FARMER FROM CUNNAMULLA, QUEENSLAND

Farmer Alex has never been in love before bless his soul. I can’t wait to see the woman who steals his heart.

“I’ve never been in love before. I’d hate to go through a whole life without finding love, and finding that special person who’s interested in being on the farm. I want a girl that’s full of surprises, that keeps me guessing all the time.”

FARMER NEIL, 42, A SHEEP FARMER FROM CROOKWELL, NSW

This isn't Neil's first rodeo but he's already shaping up to be my favourite.

“I’m a single father of three. I’ve had my fair share of relationship ups, and relationship downs and I’m looking for ‘forever’. It’s lonely – there are times when you really wish you had someone to bounce something off, and there’s no one there. When I look at the package now, and I look at kids, job; everything, I’ve got the complete package – minus one part.”

The loneliness of country living is getting to Neil.

FARMER NICK, 44, A VINEYARD WORKER, FROM DEVIOT, TASMANIA

Nick has a sexy, husky voice and makes wine for a living. The perfect man? I think so.

“I’m Nick and I live in Deviot, Tasmania. It would mean everything to me to find true love. I am looking for a lady who accepts me for who I am. Does that sound cliche?”

Nick wants to woo a girl with his knack for wine-making.

The show has had an on-again/off-again relationship with our screens, first coming to Australia in 2007 and being hosted by Getaway presenter Natalie Gruzlewski. After eight delightful seasons, it was canned in 2012. It was picked up again in 2016 and hosted by Sam McClymont but was sadly cancelled again after just one season.

Now it’s back, and hopefully for good this time. Better still, the original host Nat is back and couldn’t be more excited to watch these farmers find love.

“I’ve seen first-hand how this process can change lives and I can’t wait to get back into it,” she said.

Unlike the abysmal success rate of other reality shows (read: Married At First Sight), The Farmer Wants A Wife has produced an impressive nine marriages and 20 kids. On the international stage, there's been 147 marriages and a whopping 280 babies born as a result. Now THAT’S what we call a success rate.

The show was slated to air in April this year, but pushed back to July — most likely due to COVID-19. Keep your eyes peeled for an official reveal date, don your best boots and get ready to watch these farmers find love.
