BRITISH supergroup Coldplay have opted to do a world tour of only seven shows to promote their latest album.
Sadly for Melbourne, two of those shows happened in Sydney, last night in a sold-out concert at the Enmore Theatre where pop princess Kylie Minogue gave a surprise performance, and the night before at an invite-only event for Foxtel’s Max Sessions.
The latter, an intimate performance for 700 people, was a rare chance to get close to one of the world’s biggest rock bands.

Frontman Chris Martin also revealed what most had assumed — their latest album Ghost Stories is inspired by his recent split from wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
He told the crowd: “A lot of it is about when you go through something a little difficult, and you understand that by staying with it you reach a place of love and happiness and come through better the other side.”
Martin also felt compelled to explain a scratch on his face — perhaps sensing the abrasion was open to interpretation. Martin cut himself while in Tokyo and he liked that it made him look tougher.
The set took mostly from Ghost Stories, but included earlier hits Paradise, Clocks, Viva La Vida and Fix You. Martin said: “It’s wonderful to be back, we love playing here, we always feel so welcome.”
Coldplay’s Max Session, screening August 9 on Foxtel, lured celebrity guests including Kate Ritchie, rapper 360, Marcia Hines, Molly Meldrum, and The Veronicas.
