Ed Sheeran fans enraged after multiple people collapse during Melbourne concert

THINGS got a little more than heated at an Ed Sheeran gig in Melbourne on Saturday, with multiple concertgoers falling ill.

ED SHEERAN fans are furious at officials at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium after they refused to open the stadium roof, leading temperatures to soar inside the venue and multiple people fainting.

Concertgoers have told Yahoo7 that people were being wheeled-out as early as midway through the first support act, before Sheeran had even graced the stage, because it was so hot inside the stadium.

And it only got worse, with multiple people passing out over the course of the night due to heat exhaustion.

Melbourne’s temperature reached 35 degrees on Saturday, so couple that with approximately 65,000 people moving around in an enclosed space and you’re not going to have a good time.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed what fans’ reported, telling Yahoo7 that numerous people were treated for dehydration, with one woman being taken to hospital for a leg injury.

Fans have descended on the venue’s Facebook page to share their rage at what occurred at the concert.

One woman said it “was a nightmare, it was insanely hot with the stadium at full capacity and no air flow or airconditioning. People were fainting only 30 miss into the first supporting act.”

Another patron said her teenage son needed first aid due to the heat, saying “my 13 yr old son kept having nose bleeds due to the heat …[it] was horrible.”

A spokesman for Etihad Stadium told Yahoo7 that they kept the roof closed due to a touring management request.

”Patrons’ health and safety is always our number one priority and we were continually monitoring the situation.”

He refuted fans’ claims that safety was compromised: “the temperatures inside the stadium was not at a level that put Ed’s fans at risk.”

It remains to be seen whether the venue will change conditions after the backlash.

Sheeran will play two more shows at Etihad on Sunday and Monday before moving onto Sydney and Brisbane.
