Katy Perry adds more Aussie concerts to her sold-out Lifetimes tour

With the failure of her last album, Katy Perry might be in her ‘flop era’ - but big Aussie news announced today reveals she’s not over yet.

Katy Perry continues to defy her detractors after the flop of her 143 album, with “overwhelming” demand for tickets to her The Lifetimes tour forcing her to add two final shows to the already sold-out Australian leg.

Perry, who wowed footy fans with her colourful performance at last year’s AFL Grand Final, will now open the Australian tour with an extra show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on June 4, and another show added at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on June 7.

Tickets for both new concerts go on sale on February 25 from noon via Ticketek.

Perry was “blown away” by the response to the Australian shows which were the first to be announced for her global tour when she was here for the grand final performance last September.

She even added a run of four sold out shows in Adelaide after fan protests the city had been left off the initial schedule.

“I am so blown away by the incredible demand for the Lifetimes Tour that I will be adding a final show in Sydney and a final show in Melbourne to make sure all my Australian fans have a chance to experience the incredible show I am bringing!” Perry said in a statement revealing the new shows.

They have been added at the beginning of her Australian run instead of the end, because of the lack of wiggle room before she kicks off the second American leg of the tour in July.

Perry has now booked 80 concerts on the world tour.

It is estimated she has sold more than 150,000 tickets for the existing 13 shows here already.

Her long-time Australian promoter Paul Dainty said there had been “overwhelming demand” for extra shows.

“The fact that we’re adding two more shows in Sydney and Melbourne to an already sold-out tour is huge. This is a testament to Katy’s incredible connection with her Australian fans,” he said.

While Perry’s seventh record 143 was dismissed as a flop after its release last September and slammed by critics, it still debuted at No. 2 in Australia where fans have remained fiercely loyal to the Teenage Dream pop superstar. It also reached a peak of No. 6 in the UK and US – hardly a failure in chart measures.

Her music has had more than 22 billion streams on Spotify alone with eight songs breaching the one billion plays ceiling.

Many pop superstar acts remain big box office draws despite the chart fortunes of new records with Coldplay still on their Music of the Spheres world tour which began in 2022 despite their Moon Music record not generating any singles to match their biggest hits.

After kicking off the tour in Mexico in April before a run of concerts in American arenas in May, Perry will spend all of June based in Australia with 15 shows in the five major capital cities.

While she has yet to share any details of the Lifetimes concert, the setlist is likely to be heavy on the hits with only a few songs from her latest album.
