Aussie actress accuses Rebel Wilson of making up ‘absurd’ sexual assault claims about her

An Australian actress has claimed Rebel Wilson made up false accusations about her, making her the centre of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.

Rebel Wilson hits back at The Deb producers amid defamation lawsuit

An Australian actress has claimed Rebel Wilson made up false sexual assault accusations about her on the set of their upcoming film, The Deb, which marks Wilson’s directorial debut.

Charlotte MacInnes has found herself at the centre of a multimillion-dollar case in which the film’s three producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden are suing Wilson for defamation after she accused them of embezzling funds from the film’s budget as well as exhibiting “inappropriate behaviour” towards lead actress MacInnes.

Now in documents filed in the Los Angeles superior court and obtained by The Guardian, MacInnes alleges that Wilson made up lies about her and the Pitch Perfect star’s repeated claims that Ghost sexually harassed and abused MacInnes are “absurd” because nothing of the sort occurred.

“I was deeply disturbed by this behaviour, and felt very bullied and harassed by Wilson, who was the director of the film and in a position of authority over me,” MacInnes alleges in the documents.

“Nothing that I told Wilson could reasonably have conveyed that I was reporting any misconduct, because there was no misconduct.”

MacInnes said Wilson’s claims she was subjected to “depraved sexual demands” and was held “captive by Ghost and Cameron as she is shuttled from city to city with them” are complete rubbish.

“These statements are completely false and absurd,” MacInnes stated. “I have no idea what could cause Wilson and her attorney to make up such lies about me.”

In July 2023, Wilson was sued for defamation by the three producers after explosive allegations she made on Instagram, one of which she accused the trio of blocking her movie from making its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“It’s awesome that [The Deb] got selected for closing night of the Toronto Film Festival, which is like the best platform to be a first-time female director. I mean, it’s huge. It’s massive,” Wilson said in a video shared on the platform.

“So to have the joy of the movie being selected is one thing. But then to have the business partners that are involved in that movie turn around and say that, ‘No, the movie can’t premiere,’ is just beyond devastating.”

She went on to claim that the producers, who she named in her post, were sabotaging her because she called them out on their “bad behaviour”, which she claimed included “embezzling [$900,000] funds from the film’s budget which we really needed because we’re a small movie”.

“In the meantime, though, I still finished the movie. I made this great movie, The Deb, and then now, almost at the finish line, they’re saying it can’t come out. They might not release it, they might bury it,” Wilson claimed. “Yeah, so that’s my dilemma. If the movie doesn’t play at Toronto, it’s because of these absolute f**kwits.”

In a follow-up post, Wilson doubled down: “It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH (those ‘producers’ who I mentioned in my last post have just filed a defamation suit against me and sent to the press! It is a bogus PR stunt).”
