Australian star Rebel Wilson is being sued for defamation after she accused the producers of her new film of embezzlement and misconduct in an explosive Instagram video.

Wilson made the shocking allegations against the three producers – Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and executive producer Vince Holden – of her film The Deb in a video posted to her 11 million followers on Instagram this week.

The Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star said her film was selected to close the Toronto Film Festival but claimed the “business partners” did not allow The Deb to premiere.

She named Ms Ghost, Mr Cameron and Mr Holden in the video, going on to allege she “discovered bad behaviour” towards one of the film’s lead actresses and that funds allocated for the film were being embezzled.

“Since I reported that behaviour, I have been met with absolute viciousness and retaliatory behaviour,” Ms Wilson claimed in the video.

“Every step of the way, these people that I complained about tried to make my life hell.”

Ms Wilson said her film being chosen to close the festival was “huge” but the alleged decision to not allow this was “devastating”.

“They’re saying it can’t come out, they can’t release it, they might bury it,” she claimed.

“This is the work of hundreds of people who put their heart and soul into this.”

But the trio of producers vigorously deny the accusations and have since filed defamation proceedings in the Los Angeles County of the Superior Court of California, in America.

In court documents seen by NewsWire, Ms Ghost, Mr Cameron and Mr Holden allege Ms Wilson “has a history of fabricating false and malicious lies to hide her own lack of professionalism and advance her own self-interest”.

They allege Ms Wilson sought to claim a writing credit for the film from her “protégé” and demanded the plaintiffs provide her a record label with an external music group.

“Rebel’s goal in these several disputes was to get credit for work she did not do, and to overshadow young, upcoming artists who truly deserved the credit,” the trio allege in the documents.

The trio further claim Ms Wilson “revived a fictitious story” about Ms Ghost sexually harassing a lead actor in The Deb “when (Ms Wilson) did not get her way in these disputes – before allegedly making the embezzlement claims.

“Each and every one of these insinuations is patently false and easily disproved,” the documents state.

All three producers are seeking actual damages, along with costs and expenses.

In a post on Instagram Ms Wilson responded: “It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH (those ‘producers’ who I mentioned in my last post have just filed a defamation suit against me and sent to the press)!”

She continued: “Let our cool movie play at Toronto and stop messing about with a rubbish defamation suit against me!”

The Deb, a comedy musical about two teenage girls attending a debutante ball in a small country town, is Ms Wilson’s directorial debut.
