Fallout continues after thousands stranded outside at Lady Gaga
Furious fans have continued to blast Suncorp Stadium after thousands of Lady Gaga concertgoers missed the start of the star’s show last night.
Furious fans have continued to vent after thousands of Lady Gaga concertgoers missed the start of the star’s show due to technical issues at soundcheck.
Concertgoers were lined up along Caxton St to get into gates C, D and E after the show’s scheduled start time.
“Waited outside for three hours in line and didn’t get onto the FLOOR (FRONT GA) until she had already played like 3 or 4 songs,” a fan posted online.
“Pissed is an understatement. No apologies from any of the staff, no water or anything being sold outside the venue, some people were waiting in lines that didn’t even exist, so they just started merging 3 lines of people together and some of those people had only just got to the concert grounds. F*CK Suncorp Stadium for real.”
The woman alleged people were running through the security checkpoint without getting their bags checked or being waved down with a metal detector.
“I’m talking 10-20 people at a time straight past the 30 odd security guards and they didn’t even bat an eyelid. Anyone could’ve gotten in? Did we not learn anything from the Manchester attack at Ariana Grande?
“We could hardly enjoy the concert anymore. It’s all Suncorp Stadium’s fault. We paid $350 for these tickets and we just wish we had of gotten a refund and gone home.”
Lady Gaga was scheduled to go on stage at 7pm, with stadium gates 30 minutes behind schedule, believed to be the result of technical issues.
At least two people required medical assistance after passing out in the lines.
A Suncorp Stadium spokesman said over 95 per cent of patrons were inside by the time the show started at 7.40, with no queueing at the gates by 7.52pm.
“Technical issues identified during the artist’s soundcheck resulted in gates opening at about 5.50pm instead of the scheduled 5pm,” he said.
“This delay resulted in a backlog of patrons queuing on the stadium’s external plazas.
“This backlog exacerbated the already delayed entry resulting in patrons experiencing unusually long wait times.
“The show began at 7.40pm, after (being) originally scheduled to start at 7pm.
“The venue, as always, will perform an extensive debrief with all stakeholders in the coming days.”
One woman said her daughter was stuck outside the venue after waiting for more than two hours.
“Absolutely ridiculous for my daughter who is still waiting outside after two-and-a-half hours and still not in and Gaga has started,” the comment read.
Meanwhile, a man deported to Australia after rushing at Ariana Grande during the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good last month was kicked out of the show.
In a photo uploaded to Instagram, Johnson Wen, also known online as “Pyjama Man”, revealed he had been ushered out of the stadium by security shortly after the gates opened.
Witnesses claimed he was wearing a fake moustache, which they alleged he managed to sneak into the venue.
Mr Wen was spotted at nearby Roma St station about 10pm.
On Mr Wen being escorted out from the stadium, the spokesman described the man as a “known serial offender”.
“In the interest of the artist’s safety this individual was deemed a person of interest and not to be allowed to attend,” he said.
“Due to the excellent work by the venue’s diligent security team, an individual matching the description was identified and passed on to police before the show began.”
