Madison Beer ‘Encore’ tour review at Fortitude Music Hall Brisbane

Madison Beer mesmerised Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall with her debut Australian performance, blending impeccable stagecraft, emotionally charged ballads, and dazzling visuals.

Fortitude Valley Music Hall was a sea of ribbons, corsets, knee-high boots and mini skirts as Madison Beer took to the stage for her first ever Australian performance.

The 25-year-old American singer, known for her ballads of heartbreak, stunned the venue with her immaculate stage presence, beautiful riff vocals and precious crowd interactions.

Madison took to the stage after a 15 minute countdown that had the crowd screaming in anticipation, fans eagerly waiting to hear songs from her grammy-nominated album Silence Between Songs.

She teased the crowd with video snippets from her album cover shoot before rising from below the floor wearing her iconic corset and leg warmers, while flicking her hair.

Like Madison herself, the staging and lighting was wonderfully photogenic and aesthetic as the back screen displayed sunrises, space, music-video style visuals to suit each of her songs, trippy intergalactic scenes and childhood footage on the poignant song ‘Ryder’, a beautiful tribute to her younger brother.

Madison welcomed the audience to her debut Aussie show and said she “didn’t know what to say”.

She said Brisbane was the loudest audience she had ever performed to.

“You might think I say this to every show but you’re the loudest we’ve had all tour,” Madison said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like this, I’m so serious.

“You’re so sweet, I’m having the time of my life,” she said.

Madison performed songs from her new album that contrasted from her older, more self reflective and heart wrenching repertoire.

The stage was smokey with the lights beating and flashing down upon the crowd as she danced seductively.

She captivated the sold out audience of dedicated fans who sang along to every word.

Accompanied by two guitarists and a heavy vibrating instrumental the theatre shook as she belted her more upbeat hits including ‘Good in Goodbye’, that starts off with light piano then immediately transitions into powerful vocals, the epitome of a break-up song as her lyrics are incredibly clever and sassy.

Madison consistently held her heart as she sang and took deep breaths, making it evident she was feeling the emotional lyrics she sang.

She pranced around the stage grabbing the crowds hands while accepting a teddy bear, kindly acknowledging signs people had made and making self deprecating jokes to her fans.

Madison thanked the audience for their support and said she was often “doubtful” of herself.

“I have so many doubts and I get hard on myself when I see bullsh-t on social media, I take it to heart,” Madison said.

“Your support means the world to me,” she said.

Madison ended her show with ‘King of everything’, about her relationship with men who have abused their power with the lyrics “Look what you’ve done / Taken advantage of people so young / Ridin’ the high road on everyone’s lows”.

The track was progressively heightened by electric guitar riffs, a theatrical climax and a key change, combined with confetti cannons, this made for an epic finish to her show.

Madison ended her show by parading a PRIDE and an Australian flag gifted by fans as she hugged them and thanked everyone present.

Next time I hope to see Madison take to the stage at an even bigger venue in celebration of her music that is yet to come.

Beer is set to play at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on August 30 and Melbourne’s Margeret Court Arena on September 2 with final tickets available at frontiertouring.com/madisonbeer.
