Hollywood star Matt Damon touches down in Cairns before Whitsunday island getaway
Queensland has welcomed another Hollywood heavyweight, with Matt Damon quietly making his way to Hamilton Island for a summer break.
Hollywood actor Matt Damon has returned to Queensland, with his private jet making a discreet stop in Cairns on Thursday morning before continuing to the Whitsundays for a summer getaway.
Aviation tracking data shows Damon’s Global 7500, tail number N444WT, landed at Cairns International Airport about 5.40am after a direct flight from Burbank Airport in Los Angeles. The aircraft cleared customs, refuelled and departed shortly after for Hamilton Island.
Despite the brief stopover, Damon did not leave the aircraft, maintaining a low profile as airport staff worked around the high-end jet.
The visit marks another chapter in Damon’s long-running relationship with Australia, which he has previously described as his “second home”.
Damon is known to favour Queensland for family getaways, particularly the Sunshine Coast, and Byron Bay, where he often stays with close friend Chris Hemsworth.
He has also been spotted at major local events, including unannounced appearances at Brisbane’s Ekka.
While the purpose of this latest trip has not been confirmed, the sighting comes as Queensland prepares to welcome several other high-profile visitors.
Oprah Winfrey will be in Brisbane on Monday night for her In Conversation event, while Lady Gaga is set to perform a sold-out show at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday.
