Beloved sports commentator Peter “Salty” Psaltis has officially signed off from his 4BC program Wide World of Sports, marking the end of an era for Brisbane radio.

Psaltis announced last week that he would be stepping away from the station to focus on his growing television commitments.

“I never thought I’d have the honour of hosting my own program” he told listeners, reflecting on his 24 years in radio.

“I’ll have a break now then launch into 2026 with the Summer of Tennis on Channel 9 then the Winter Olympics ahead of the NRL and NRLW season.”

He also shared that what he is most excited about is spending more time with family and having the flexibility to get involved in, and host, more Brisbane events.

Listeners were quick to flood the text line with messages of support, thanking Psaltis for his decades of coverage and his steady presence on the airwaves.

And while Psaltis is stepping back from his nightly program, it is far from the last time listeners will hear him on radio, with the veteran broadcaster expected to continue appearing across major sporting coverage and special event programming.

4BC Content Manager Siobhain McDonald told The Courier-Mail, “Salty has been an integral part of the 4BC team for nearly three decades. Footy finals, floods, cyclones, Olympics coverage he’s done it all.

“We’re delighted to be celebrating his great radio career to date, and the amount of tributes and well wishes in his final show just prove how beloved and respected he is in the industry and with listeners.

“It’s a see you later not a goodbye for Salty and radio. We can’t wait to see what he does next and wish him nothing but the best as he concentrates on his TV career.”

Psaltis has long been regarded as one of Brisbane’s most trusted rugby league voices, known for his calm analysis, deep understanding of the game, and his reputation as a genuinely respected and well-regarded figure both on and off air.

His departure comes during a turbulent period for Brisbane radio, with several high-profile hosts either stepping down or being moved on across multiple networks.
