In an emotional video, the 29-year-old mother of three recounted how her doctor discovered an abnormal freckle on her leg during a routine skin check that she had postponed several times due to her busy schedule.

“Turns out it was skin cancer, it was melanoma,” Hembrow shared in her video.

The shocking revelation resulted in a surgery on Friday morning where a ‘big chunk’ from the back of her leg was removed, leaving her with 30 stitches.

“And now I have to go back every three months for a full skin check to make sure it isn’t coming back,” she said.

Despite her diagnosis, Hembrow is thankful that the melanoma was detected early.

“So super super lucky we found it when we did, I’m glad I finally went to this appointment and made the time for it,” she confessed.

Having made a name for herself in the fitness industry, not only for her incredible physique but also her sun-kissed complexion, Hembrow admitted that her love for the sun and frequent beach visits might have exposed her skin to harm.

Hembrow confessed that she wasn’t always diligent with sunscreen, a lapse she now regrets. She noted, however, that she has always ensured her kids are protected.

“But I feel like an idiot now to be honest, because it’s just one of those things you don’t think it will happen to you until it does,” she said.

Pledging never to venture into the sun without SPF 50 again, she called this ordeal her “wakeup call”.

Leveraging her experience as a cautionary tale for her followers, Hembrow has since been encouraging her followers to get their skin checked regularly.

“Just don’t be stupid like me and think that you’re somehow invincible because your not,” she said.
