Ghostly figures and barking dogs: Inside Robin Bailey’s haunted house mystery

After moving into a historic Paddington house, radio host Robin Bailey and her new partner encounter eerie night-time visions and odd behaviour from their dogs.

Brisbane radio star Robin Bailey suspects her recently purchased home in Paddington might be haunted.

The historic Queensland residence, over a century old, has been the scene of some inexplicable occurrences, leading her convinced that she’s not the only occupant.

Bailey traded her waterfront home in Fig Tree Pocket for a character-filled 120-year-old Queenslander, after securing a deal at a stunning $1.6 million in 2023.

However, the charm of the vintage property came with unexpected guests, according to Bailey and her boyfriend, Olivier Massart.

The couple’s nights have been disrupted by ghostly visions and odd behaviours from her pets. “A couple of nights ago, my boyfriend woke up and saw a figure moving from my room into the walk-in wardrobe. He thought it was me, then realised I was beside him,” Bailey recounted.

Adding to the suspected paranormal presence, Bailey’s dogs — a Kelpie cattle cross and a Maltese Shih tzu — have repeatedly fixated on an empty spot on the wall, barking and growling as if guarding their owner from an unseen presence.

“They jumped up onto the bed and stood protecting me, growling at the same thing. But there was nothing there,” she explained.

Seeking clarity, Bailey consulted Australia’s beloved vet, Dr. Chris Brown.

While Dr. Brown suggested the possibility of rodents or other small disturbances, he didn’t entirely dismiss the paranormal theory.

“The logical science person in me says maybe there was like a mouse behind the cupboard … but if you’re seeing other things as well, then maybe there’s something … their senses are better than ours,” Dr. Brown advised.

Driven by a mix of fear and fascination, Bailey is now pondering her next steps.

“I would actually like to know what kind of ghost I’ve got in my house, if anyone wants to volunteer to come and tell me,” she said with a nervous chuckle.

Bailey’s co-host Kip Wightman suggested further investigation into the home’s history might also provide answers.

“Maybe someone’s died there and that’s the image of the person that my boyfriend saw,” Bailey speculated.
