If you didn’t keep last year’s New Year’s resolution to be better organised, don’t panic — you can still secure a spot at many of Brisbane’s A list New Year’s Eve parties.
Some venues are hosting two “sittings” to take in either the family-friendly 8.30pm fireworks or the midnight fireworks – both set off from barges on the Brisbane River at South Bank, Eagle Street Pier and Portside Wharf.
Resolutions fail within 12 days
The Sunday Mail found plenty of places to party.
Tickets are still available for Treasury Brisbane’s two celebrations — one on the ground floor and a roof top party. Together, partygoers are expected to work their way through 200 dozen oysters, 30kg of cheese and 500 sliders washed down with 2000 cocktails.
The new W Hotel Brisbane in the new Brisbane Quarter in George Street hosts its first New Year’s Eve and, also, in the Brisbane Quarter, Heritij is hosting an Indian feast.
The recently opened Howard Smith Wharves are expected to be popular but you can still book a place at Greca Restaurant for $150 which gets you a menu that includes king prawns, grilled octopus and baked lamb shoulder.
Most restaurants at Eagle St Pier are still taking bookings – including the Kookaburra Queen paddle boat – although you will have to get in quick if you want to treat yourself to Aria Brisbane’s three course $180 dinner.
Of course, if your budget is a bit stretched after Christmas there’s always cheaper options than a sit down dinner or beverage and canape package. Greg Kalligeros owner of Fresh n Wild at Portside Wharf said New Year’s Eve was one of his biggest nights of the year.
“We expect to sell over 300 fish and chips orders for families who come to see the fireworks at Portside Wharf plus hundreds of kilos of Australian prawns, local sand crabs mud crabs and oysters to people who enjoy balcony and river parties,” Mr Kalligeros said.
