TV host Kylie Gillies is the new face of Harris Scarfe fashion company

SHE’S funny, intelligent and one of the most glamorous women on Australian TV, but Kylie Gillies, 51, who has signed on as the face of Harris Scarfe’s spring/summer women’s fashion collection, said like most people, her confidence came and went.

SHE’S funny, intelligent and one of the most glamorous women on Australian television, but Kylie Gillies says she isn’t always as confident as she might appear.

The 51-year-old, who has signed on as the face of Harris Scarfe’s spring/summer women’s fashion collection, said like most people, her confidence came and went.

“Some days I feel like I’ve got it all together and think I’ve reached a point in my life where I’ve got it all together, and then something happens and you feel like you’re 21 again,” she said.

“I hope I can give advice to some of the younger girls at work, but I’m not so sure. And the older my boys get in their teenage years, the more I think ‘I know nothin’.”

Gillies, who has co-hosted Seven’s The Morning Show with Larry Emdur for the past 11 years, said her partnership with Harris Scarfe came about after she wore a $39 dress from the store on air.

Confidential takes some credit for scoring Gillies the ambassadorship role, having noticed the TV presenter share a snap on social media about the bargain find in March.

Given television hosts usually wear expensive designer duds, it was a novelty for Gillies to be buying her own gear and for such a cheap price.

At the time, Gillies told Confidential: “I found this fossicking through the sale racks over the January school holidays. It is really the only time I have to shop for myself. Sixties-inspired, ’60s price.”

Yesterday she added: “I picked up this gorgeous geometric print dress on sale, and I wore it on the show and the rest is history; I’m now part of the Harris Scarfe family,” she said.

The fashionable mum-of-two has experimented with countless trends during her time on air and said a lot of the styles she wore during her early years had started to return to the fashion fore.

“I do remember the outfit I wore on my very first day was a navy and white polka dot, pussy bow silk shirt, but it’s all the rage again now,” she said.

“If we want to go way back to my reporting days in Tamworth that was all about statement earrings and a shoulder pad blazer, and in my early days reporting at Channel 7 it was the pants suit.

“I see young girls these days around the newsroom in their matching blazer and pant suits and I think, ‘hmm, been there done that’.”

Gillies said her favourite new season trends were inspired by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, such as crème pants and florals.

“It’s a little bit Meghan Markle Wimbledon 2018, there’s some really soft dusty pinks we’ve seen her wear of course during the English summer,” she said.
