Triple M breakfast: ‘I’m the a**hole of the breakfast team’

THEY’VE all been known to say some pretty controversial things in their time, but one member from Triple M’s The Big Breakfast with Marto, Robin and the Moonman say it’s their job to stir things up.

LAWRENCE Mooney claims to be “the a**hole” of his Triple M Brisbane breakfast team.

The comedian, who presents alongside Greg “Marto” Martin and Robin Bailey (left) on their show The Big Breakfast with Marto, Robin & the Moonman, told Confidential he was thankful his colleagues were enjoyable to be around because he didn’t have to pretend to like them.

“What our show lacks is ego,” he said.

“I’m very self-aware – I’m the a**hole. Marto and Robin are easy to work with.

“What we all have in common is we want to have fun at work because commercial radio and particularly breakfast radio can be very demanding, and if you’re not having a good time with your team, it can be very draining.”

Mooney said be believed “faking it” with a team he didn’t get along with would be impossible.

“If you’re tired and being tested emotionally, the cracks will begin to show – you couldn’t hide your feelings for long,” he said.

“We’re quite interested in each other off-air.”

Mooney, who replaced former host Ed Kavalee at the end of last year, said he was happy with how the show was tracking so far.

But he did acknowledge that the team took “a little bump” in the last radio ratings survey, where the show ranked fourth behind Nova 106.9’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill, HIT105’sStav, Abby & Matt and 97.3FM’s Bianca, Terry & Bob, after slipping 0.6 points to finish with a 10.4 per cent audience share.
