Tim Minchin devastated after Dreamworks pulls pin on Larrikins

TIM Minchin’s animated film Larrikins has been “shut down” by studio executives, according to the Aussie star.
Minchin described feeling “impotent fury and sadness” over the cancellation in a short statement published on his website.
The LA-based composer of Matilda the Musical and Groundhog Day had been set to direct the movie, which would have starred the likes of Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Rose Byrne and Naomi Watts, for Dreamworks.
The 41-year-old actor and comedian announced he would host an intimate, last-minute gig, Getting Drunk and Playing Ballards, in New York to “deal with” the recent blow.
“I’ve recently been working in 3 different continents, missing my kids a lot, sleeping too little and not playing piano enough,” he began the statement.
“And then a couple of days ago, the animated film to which I’ve dedicated the last 4 years of my life was shut down by the new studio execs.
“The only way I know how to deal with my impotent fury and sadness is to subject members of the public to the spectacle of me getting drunk and playing ballads.”
Minchin went on to say he “might act a bit bitter and spoilt” at the show.
“I suspect I won’t be very funny, I won’t be doing any stand-up, and I might act a bit bitter and spoilt,” he said.
“On the upside, the tickets are as cheap as I could make them, and I might be tempted to buy a round.”
Tickets to the show sold out shortly after he announced it.
Larrikins was set to follow the story of an uptight bilby’s adventures beyond the family burrow.
Minchin will star as Friar Tuck in the upcoming Robin Hood: Origins film, which is currently in production.
