SOPHIE Monk is gunning for a ring.
The popular radio and television presenter says she doesn’t want to be the one to propose but is definitely hoping to marry boyfriend Joshua Grosse.
“I am pushing every day,” Monk told Confidential. “I know nowadays it is okay but something in me, I don’t know … I just want it that way.”
Monk met marketing executive Grosse on a flight about 14 months ago and the pair have been ensconced in each other ever since.
“He is out of control the best thing ever,” Monk, 39, said of her love. “I am lucky. I hit the jackpot on an aeroplane.”
Workwise, Monk this month realised a dream, which was to release her own affordable make-up.
The former Bachelorette star has joined forces with ModelCo and MCoBeauty founder Shelley Sullivan on The Beauty Edit by Sophie Monk Limited Edition Collection that includes lip glosses, eye shadow palettes, brushes and highlighters.
“When I was younger, I just didn’t have as much money as everyone else,” she explained. “People would be wearing this beautiful make-up and I just didn’t have the confidence as mine would look like I had used colouring in pencils. All the lower end make-up, it doesn’t go on your skin well, it clumps and looks terrible. I wish I had something I could afford that was good quality so I’ve always wanted to do this.”
Detailing how hard it was when she was a struggling performer working as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator and Movie World on the Gold Coast in the early days of her career, Monk said she simply couldn’t afford decent beauty products and that her wage just covered her rent.
“I had nothing to eat,” she said. “I couldn’t get on the bus, there just wasn’t enough money. I never felt as confident as everyone else and couldn’t afford make-up.”
While her job means Monk often has her make-up done by professionals, she boasts at being able to “do my make-up without looking at the mirror”.
“That is how good I am getting,” she said. “I used to be late to everything. I am pretty quick now and I am proud of it.”
