NO Lily — it’s not us, it’s you. No shame. Sheezus.
Despite leaking salacious samples of her upcoming autobiography hours before landing in Sydney yesterday to spruik live shows, Lily Allen’s team vetoed any newspaper chats — just in case the 33-year-old was probed about that same memoir.
They said it was because of “the heavy embargo on Lily discussing her book (which isn’t released for another three weeks) and the number of unfortunate leaks from it during recent time”.
Ah, sure — the leak the mother-of-two herself posted on social media describing her exploits with female escorts after her split from builder Sam Cooper.
But Allen’s mouth has a life of its own — which is more than could be said of her career right now.
In 2016, while at a migrant camp in France, she caused outrage when she apologised on her country’s behalf to a 13-year-old Afghan boy who was trying to get to Britain, later saying she would “100 per cent” take children to live in her $3.6 million London apartment. She never did.
Clearly Allen needs some good publicity — her past two albums were duds, barely gracing the charts here, the US or in the UK.
And she’s booked a number of smaller venues to play a national tour next year.
In the past she’s sold out the 5000-capacity Hordern Pavilion and in February will play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, which fits about half that.
