TOP radio talent could snub the Gold Coast Logies because the ceremony was scheduled during their annual holiday period.

Australian television’s night of nights will be held on the Gold Coast on July 1, which clashes with the beginning of a two-week radio survey break across the five metro cities – the longest holiday of the year for presenters, when ratings aren’t measured.

Comedian and Hit 105 drive-show host Dave Hughes, who has delivered the opening speech for the past few years, said the scheduling was a “massive issue” for radio hosts, who plan for the break each year.

“I don’t know how that’s going to go. I know they want me to be involved, but it might depend on whether I get nominated or not,” Hughes (pictured) said while in Queensland for the Brisbane Comedy Festival at the weekend. “There’s a holiday booked.”

Co-host Kate Langbroek added: “It’s very strange planning.”

Other top TV stars who also host radio shows include Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, Jane Kennedy and Mick Molloy, and Sam Pang.

It is the first year the Logies will be held in Queensland, having moved from Melbourne. While the ceremony is traditionally held in April, Confidential understands the date was pushed back because of the Commonwealth Games.

Logie winners also traditionally appear on national and breakfast radio shows the following day, which at that time of year will include re-runs and fill-in presenters.

A TV Week Logie Awards spokesman said the date would not be moved and organisers were confident the date clash would not affect attendance.

“All networks and their talent look forward to celebrating the industry, and 2018 is no different,” the spokesman said.

“The Gold Coast is always a beautiful part of the world to visit, and it offers something new and different.

“The Star Gold Coast, TV Week, Channel Nine, and the Gold Coast will offer a show that’s never been seen before, with star performers and special guests.”

Public voting was opened last week with a launch event on the Gold Coast attended by TV stars including Scarlet Vas,BachelorMatty Johnsonand Jenni Baird (pictured).
