WHEN Billy Ray Cyrus played Brisbane Entertainment Centre in 1993 his daughter was four months old.

Last night that daughter, Miley, was on the same stage, thankfully minus any sign of a mullet.

A lot of Billy Ray’s appeal was based on sexual attraction to his female audience. You wonder how many fans now in the building were conceived in the heat of post-Billy-concert passions.

His appeal was to the opposite sex. Miley’s is to the girls who have grown with her from Disney TV star to full-fledged adult pop star.

She prances, she dances, she shakes her behind, she swears like a trooper and then there are all the inflatable toys, one of which is a hot dog. You know where this is going, don’t you?

Between times there are loads of party anthems, from Bangerz to that hard-to-resist earworm, Wrecking Ball. She told the crowd she had Miley flu but was going to leave everything she had on the stage.

It’s all non-stop action from there, from the giant puppet to mega dog and dancing dwarf, and plenty of opportunity to show off an impressive set of pipes and range of styles from electro pop to soul diva. There’s so much colour, movement and sequins you can’t help but be entertained .

She likes a cover too, with versions of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds as power ballad and Jolene by her godmother Dolly Parton included.

Her old man was big on the covers too. He played Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll at this venue.

How do I know? I was the reviewer that night too.

Predictions for the future? Miley will be back at this venue many times, a feat not achieved by the old man. But if one of Billy Ray’s grandkids ever play the EntCent, you’d better count me out.
